Acer shirasawanum ‘Purple Thunder’ is a full moon Japanese maple with dark purple leaves especially in the spring. These leaves fade to a burgundy in the summer. In the fall the leaves change to a bright red. ‘Purple Thunder’ has large leaves with long lobes that fold under themselves. Acer shirasawanum ‘Purple Thunder’ will grow into a medium size Japanese maple at maturity.
